Envisioning Tool (TM)

The Envisioning Tool is a library of cards exploiting the Sci-Fi genre. This tool aims to stimulate a discussion about the future by analysing narratives about societal issues and technologies through Sci-Fi films. The purpose of such activity is to understand the fears and [dis] beliefs behind the social and political constructions and technological development represented in popular narratives and draw conclusions about why the future is perceived in that way and how we could act to prevent these scenarios.

There are two levels of exploration, the societal and technological:

> Societal Inspiration Cards (SICs)

> Technological Inspiration Cards (TICs).

Some examples in the library may have both of these dimensions, which can be compared. Depending on the purpose of the design and research activity, you may choose to use one or both levels for the analysis.

The cards can open discussion and debate, inspire new design topics/problems, or nourish existing design projects.
